Call for submissions: Planet in Focus Environmental Film Festival


Planet in Focus has put out a call for submissions for their upcoming 13th Annual Planet in Focus Environmental Film Festival.

Planet in Focus is Canada's leading environmentally-themed film festival. Its programming includes stories and explorations of urban and rural spaces; wildlife; social, cultural and political environments; farming; First Nations perspectives; public health; climate change; human displacement; war; globalization; water; forests; food security and other creative interpretations of the theme “environment.”

In addition to films, they have an important industry series that features panels, workshops and pitch sessions devoted to the subjects of film production, distribution and funding. They also have a school program for elementary and secondary students focused on environmental education.

This year's spotlight will be Renewable Energy. "To celebrate the UN International Year of Sustainable Energy, Planet in Focus will highlight a number of films that explore innovative ideas on renewable energy and other sustainable activities."

The 13th Annual Planet in Focus Environmental Film Festival will take place from October 10-14 in Toronto.

General Submissions
Planet in Focus is now accepting submissions for the 13th Annual Planet in Focus Environmental Film Festival taking place October 10-14, 2012 in Toronto, Ontario. Film and video submissions include stories and explorations of urban and rural spaces; wildlife; social, cultural and political environments; farming; Aboriginal perspectives; health and environment; climate change; human displacement; war; globalization; water; farming; forests, food security and more. In addition to our regular public screenings, we have a Film and Television Industry Series with panels, workshops and pitch sessions devoted to the subject of film production, distribution and funding; for three days October 9 – October 11 Planet in Focus hosts a school program for elementary and secondary school students focused on environmental education; and an entertaining and inspiring children and youth program.

Entry Rules and Regulations
Submission deadlines: Early-bird: April 30, 2012 and Final deadline: May 21, 2012
Notification will be issued by email in late August, 2012.
Only films completed after January 1st, 2010 will be considered for official selection.
The outside of your shipping package must read: “For Festival Preview Only – No Commercial Value” and have a value of less than $20—Planet in Focus will not pay customs fees on shipments.
Each submission must be accompanied by a separate entry fee and form (entry fees help pay for administration cost associated with submission processing. Planet in Focus is a not-for-profit organization).
All payments must be made to “Planet in Focus.
All foreign language films must have English subtitles.
All entries are eligible to be added to our Green Film Market (see below for information and permissions) without additional costs to the applicant.
Submissions are not returned. All submissions are added to the Planet in Focus Media Archive (see below for more information).

Festival Submission Check List
 Completed festival submission form with a signed declaration.
 Two (2) preview screeners on DVD (NTSC or Zone 0 or 1, PAL accepted), clearly labeled with film title, year of production, length, director’s name and print contact email.
 Press kit—Include a film synopsis (250 word limit), full production credits, director’s biography (200 word limit, include education and filmography), PRODUCTION STILLS(300 dpi), TRAILER and print contact information.
 Entry Fee.
 Permission for your film to be included in the Planet in Focus Green Film Market.
 Declaration of ownership of copyright of the film, signed by owner or authorized representative of owner.

Particulars
Notification will be issued by email in August 2012.

The shipper must cover any customs fees related to the shipment of their submission to Planet in Focus. Planet in Focus will not pay customs fees on shipments. Your shipment will be refused and returned to you if this occurs.

All payments must be made to “Planet in Focus.”
All foreign language films must have English subtitles or dubbing.
All entries are eligible to be added to our Green Market (see below for information and permissions) without additional costs to the applicant.
Planet in Focus requires TWO (2 x) DVD copies of all submitted films. Preview Format: DVDs (Region 0 or 1 ONLY). Submissions are not returned. All submissions are added to the Planet in Focus Media Archive (see below for more information).
Preview Copies must be clearly labeled with the following information: English Title, Year of Production, Total Running Time (TRT), WAB Tracking Number, Director’s Name.
Press kit must be included: a film synopsis (250 word limit), full production credits, director’s biography (200 word limit, include education and filmography), production stills (1-3 high resolution digital), and print contact information.
Declaration of ownership of copyright of the film, signed by owner or authorized representative of owner must be filled out.
Festival screening copies must arrive at the festival office no later than September 19, 2012.
