London Evening Standard British Film Awards - nominations

The British newspaper Evening Standard has announced the contenders for its 39th London Evening Standard British Film Awards.

Two films tied for the lead with four nominations. Steve McQueen's Shame was nominated for Best Film Actor (Michael Fassbender), Actress (Carey Mulligan) and Technical Achievement for cinematographer Sean Bobbitt. Fassbender's nomination was shared with his role in Jane Eyre. Paddy Considine's Tyrannosaur picked up nominations for Best Film, Actor (Peter Mullan), Actress (Olivia Colman) and Screenplay.

The other films scoring a Best Film nod were Archipelago, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and We Need to Talk About Kevin. Each picked up three nominations, as did The Guard.

The awards are selected by a panel of film critics comprised of The Evening Standard’s Derek Malcolm, Charlotte O’Sullivan and David Sexton, The Daily Telegraph’s Tim Robey, The Times’ Kate Muir and The Independent’s Anthony Quinn – along with Evening Standard Editor Geordie Greig with Arts Editor Fiona Hughes acting as chair.

Organizers have introduced a new People’s Choice Award for Blockbuster of the Year this year. The winner will be decided by public online vote.

The ceremony for the 39th London Evening Standard British Film Awards will take place on Feb 6 at the London Film Museum on London’s Southbank. Green Wing star Stephen Mangan returns as host.
