Australian Academy's International nominees, Awards Luncheon winners

After the newly formed Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) announced the nominees for their first ever Samsung AACTA Awards, they've announced the addition today of five international categories.

None of the films picked up nominations in all five categories. But several managed a total of four – The Artist by Michel Hazanavicius, Melancholia by Lars von Trier, and Lynne Ramsay's We Need to Talk About Kevin, which has thus far been under-represented in the awards race.

Triple-nominees were The Descendants, The Ides of March, Margin Call, Midnight In Paris, Moneyball and The Tree of Life. All of the above-mentioned triple and quadruple nominees were nominated for Best Film, as was Hugo.

AACTA also presented the first round of awards at today's lunch at Sydney’s Westin Hotel. Three films picked up a pair of awards each – The Hunter, Snowtown and The Eye Of The Storm. The Hunter led the nominations with 14.

The documentary Mrs Carey's Concert was also a double winner. It was named Best Feature-Length Documentary, while Bob Connolly and Sophie Raymond won for Best Direction in a Documentary.

The remainder of the prizes for the 1st Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards will be presented at a gala ceremony on January 31 at the Sydney Opera House.

The complete lists for the AACTA International Awards nominees and the AACTA Awards Luncheon winners are below.
