2012 Drama League Awards – nominations

Nominations for the 78th annual Drama League Awards were announced by Megan Hilty, Justin Long and Raven-Symoné at Sardi’s in Times Square this morning.

Eleven plays are vying for the Distinguished Production of a Play Award including Clybourne Park, The Columnist, The Lyons, One Man, Two Guvnors, Other Desert Cities, Peter and The Starcatcher, Seminar, and Venus in Fur.

56 actors are contending for the Distinguished Performance Award. It is the only acting award given and the winners can only ever receive it once and cannot contend for it again. Among the nominees are Angela Bassett, Matthew Broderick, Kim Cattrall, Tyne Daly, Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Samuel L. Jackson, Christine Lahti, Angela Lansbury, John Larroquette, Carey Mulligan, Cynthia Nixon, Alan Rickman, Kevin Spacey and Blair Underwood.

The Drama League Awards are the oldest theatrical honors in America and the only major award chosen by audience members. Drama League members are encouraged to cast their votes for the 2012 Drama League Awards winners (online ballot available here).

Winners will be revealed at a luncheon on May 18 at the Marriott Marquis Times Square with Stockard Channing and John Larroquette as hosts.
