2012 Subtle Technologies Festival, May 24-27

Tonight, the 15th anual Subtle Technologies Festival kicks off in downtown Toronto.

The opening show will be Elaine Whittaker’s Cc:me. She calls herself a bioartist and in this show she combines live halobacteria with archival fax material collected over a ten year period. The installation includes her poetry and sound design. Poetry reading will be by Julie Roorda, Jim Johnstone, Ruth Roach Pierson and Larry Sulky. Ambient sound work by Tom Auger.

The opening show Cc:me and reception takes place at the Red Head Gallery at 7:30pm.

Festival 2012

Welcome to the 15th edition of our annual Festival!

Tickets now available.

This year’s Festival will take place from May 24, 2012 to May 27, 2012. As always, we’re bringing you a packed program of presentations, workshops, performances, screenings and more, all connected by links to science & art.

Read a welcome message from the Festival Director of Programs, Jim Ruxton.

We’re happy to be co-presenting this year’s Festival for the first time with Ryerson University!

We are trying something a little different this year. The main Festival days (Friday May 25, Saturday May 26 and Sunday May 27) will each have different related themes:

Friday May 25: Art, technology & science ideas, selected from a variety of different fields
Saturday May 26: Biology and Art — artists and scientists who share an interest in biology
Sunday May 27: The Immortal Body—events inspired by the story of Henrietta Lacks, cell technologies, medical research and the body
