Dear Filmmaker,

CBC Television is pleased to announce another season of Short Film Face Off. The program is Canada’s only television magazine program which features short films from across the country. The critically acclaimed show has already enjoyed four successful seasons and has brought a new mainstream audience for short films and increased profile for filmmakers. The CBC is looking for the best short films from every region to take part in this program.

In Short Film Faceoff films are screened and a panel of industry professionals will provide commentary as well as discuss the creative and technical aspects of the films with the filmmakers.

The series has a competitive component. The studio audience will vote to choose three finalists and the viewing audience will ultimately vote for the top film. The CBC and sponsors will be offering a cash prize and production services to be used by the winning filmmaker towards his or her next film.

Films must be under 12 minutes in length, must have been completed in the past two years, and must not have been broadcast on network television. We are looking for comedies and dramas. Music videos and documentaries are not suitable for this program, but animated films are. Directors must be available for tapings at CBC Halifax from May 15 to 18. The program producers will pay all travel and accommodation costs.

If you are interested in entering your film in Short Film Faceoff please send a DVD copy of your film to:

Join Steve Patterson as he discovers some great Canadian short films and meets the directors who created them. Short Film Face Off is a showcase of some of Canada’s finest short films and in the coming weeks we’ll see stories of love and death, friendship and even revenge.

The producers have scoured the country to find the best films and nine will be screened over three weeks. When we are down to the finalists viewers at home will have the opportunity to vote for this year’s Short Film Face Off winner.

Steve Patterson will introduce us to the directors and guide the panel of judges to critique the films. And as he says “when it comes to films, size doesn't matter”.

The winning director of Short Film Face Off will receive a production deal worth $50,000 towards their next film.

In the interest of supporting emerging talent Telefilm Canada has created the Telefilm Canada Fan Face Off Award. It is a cash award of $40,000. Together CBC and Telefilm are dedicated to developing Canadian talent and promoting Canadian screen content.

In addition we also have from PS Production Services, a proud sponsor of the film and television community, a $10,000 film equipment rental package for the winner.

That's a grand prize of $50,000 toward the winning director's next film.
