2015 Canadian Screen Awards – Winners in Drama, Children's or Youth, Comedy and Variety

The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television is pleased to announce that 48 Canadian Screen Awards were presented tonight in Drama, Children's or Youth, Comedy and Variety categories. This Canadian Screen Awards Gala was hosted tonight by comedian Darrin Rose at the Sheraton Centre Toronto.

"The Academy is honoured tonight to be able to recognize the creators and artists of Canada's favorite drama, comedy, and kids' television programming, that entertain and inspire us," says Academy Chair, Martin Katz.

"You - the producers, artists and craftspeople of the Canadian screen industry are critical to this country," says Helga Stephenson, Academy CEO. "The arts - and more specifically, our moving image arts- define us and connect us," she adds.

Teens Cast More Than 164 Million Votes

The following were honored today at TEEN CHOICE 2014, which aired live on FOX from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, CA. This year, teens logged on to teenchoiceawards.com and cast more than 164 million votes in support of their favorite celebrities from film, television, music, sports, digital and fashion.

Hosted by Modern Family's Sarah Hyland and Teen Wolf's Tyler Posey, the special also honored Selena Gomez with the Ultimate Choice Award.

Bella Thorne and Cameron Dallas presented the Choice Candie's Style Icon award to actress, singer and dancer Zendaya for her red carpet style and bold fashion choices. Actress Odeya Rush scored the Olay Fresh Effects Breakout Star Award," which was presented by MKTO and Cody Simpson. The award is a special accolade celebrating a fresh face who is poised to "break out" from the pack and showcase her best, beautiful work.

The 12th Annual Regent Park Film Festival – Call For Submissions is Now Open!

Regent Park Film Festival is Toronto’s only free-of-charge, multi-cultural, film festival dedicated to showcasing the best local and international film and video works. The stories we celebrate resonate with the inner city, community-driven, trans-national, transient context of Regent Park, as well as with other similar communities all over the world.

Regent Park is the oldest and largest public housing project in Canada. It is home to a diverse group of communities, prominently new immigrants and Indigenous peoples. Regent Park is currently undergoing a long-term revitalization, where mixed income housing is being introduced into the community.

The stories celebrated resonate with the inner city, community-driven, trans-national, transient context of Regent Park, as well as with other communities in Toronto, across Canada and all over the world. We encourage local, national and international participation.

Call for submissions: MIBFF's Youth & Diversity program

For the 10^th anniversary of the Montreal International Black Film Festival being held from September 23 to 28, 2014, the Fabienne Colas Foundation is launching a call for applications for its brand new program "Youth and Diversity".

This program offers professional mentorship in the audiovisual production of a short film to 10 young and promising filmmakers from the Black Communities. They will be guided through the many steps in audiovisual production (screenwriting, directing, editing, post-production, etc.), and will create a documentary short (maximum 5 minutes). This process will be carried out under the professional tutelage of an industry professional with professional equipment. Their final work will be screened at a special event of the 10^th Montreal International Black Film Festival.

TIFF Kids announces 17th annual festival programming

17th Annual TIFF Kids Festival Targets Children Aged 3–13 and Runs from April 8–21, 2014

The TIFF Kids International Film Festival, one of the premier film festivals for children in North America, returns for its 17thyear with a slate full of premieres of some of the best films from around the world for children aged 3 to 13 that will inspire and delight children and their families alike. The TIFF Kids Festival kicks off on Opening Night with the Canadian premiere of Rio 2, the all-star sequel to the smash-hit 2011 animated adventure, reuniting audiences with Blu and Jewel, voiced by Oscar® nominee Jesse Eisenberg and Oscar® winner Anne Hathaway, and wraps with the Closing Night Film The House of Magic, a gorgeously animated 3D feature from Belgium about a young abandoned cat who finds a new home in an enchanted mansion. 2013 MTV Movie Awards – winners

The 2013 MTV Movie Awards took place last night at the Sony Pictures Studios lot in Culver City, California. Pitch Perfect star Rebel Wilson hosted the event.

Joss Whedon's The Avengers led the night taking the top prize Movie of the Year. It also won for Best Fight and Best Villain (Tom Hiddleston).

David O. Russell's Silver Linings Playbook also won three awards, all for acting. Jennifer Lawrence won Best Female Performance, Bradley Cooper won for Best Male Performance and the two shared the prize for Best Kiss.

Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained and Seth Seth MacFarlane's Ted both led with seven nominations coming into the night but only came away with one each. Django Unchained won for Best WTF Moment, while Ted won for Best Onscreen Couple.

Toronto – TIFF has announced the Opening Night and Feature Film Presentations that will enrich, engage and entertain young audiences at the 16th annual TIFF Kids International Film Festival™. The Festival’s opening night film, The Legend of Sarila (La légende de Sarila), is Canada’s first 3D animated feature, a gorgeous-looking adventure inspired by various Inuit legends and featuring the voice of Oscar-winner Christopher Plummer. This year’s Closing Night Film is the International Premiere of the German film Famous Five 2 (Fünf Freunde 2), an adaptation of the Enid Blyton classic.TIFF Kids ®, the only film festival for children aged 3-13 in Toronto, takes place at TIFF Bell Lightbox from April 9 through April 21, 2013.

Call for submissions: TIFF Next Wave Jump Cuts

A call for submissions has been announced by the TIFF Next Wave Film Festival. TIFF Next Wave Jump Cuts takes place on May 22, 2013. TIFF Next Wave is now accepting submissions for the Jump Cuts Young Filmmakers Showcase, which presents short films created for young people, by young people.

Jump Cuts is open to young amateur filmmakers in grades 9–12. All submissions must be accompanied by a completed Jump Cuts submission form, which must be signed/approved by a responsible parent or guardian.

Entrants must be residents of Ontario. Adult participation limited to a supervisory or actor role. Films must have been completed after January 1, 2012.

2013 MTV Movie Awards – nominations

The MTV Movie Awards are just around the corner on April 14, but the nominations are right here, right now!

Leading the pack at this year's Movie Awards is Quentin Tarantino's Western epic Django Unchained, which garnered an impressive seven nominations, including the coveted Movie of the Year; the same can be said for Ted, which also received seven total noms, including Best Female Performance for Mila Kunis. Ranking third with six total nominations is Silver Linings Playbook, starring Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence.

TIFF Next Wave Film Festival 2013, Feb 15-17

The second annual TIFF Next Wave Film Festival, programmed for youth aged 14 through 18, delivers the best in film from around the globe, along with an exciting slate of special guests, interactive workshops and a 24-Hour Film Challenge for young filmmakers.

The festival kicks off tonight with the TIFF Next Wave Battle of the Scores. After being given three weeks to compose an original score for an original short film, six high-school bands from across the city will perform their soundtracks live on stage to accompany the screening of the films (created for the competition this year by emerging filmmaker Ben Roberts). The winning band will be determined by a panel of esteemed judges from the Toronto music and film community. There will also be an additional prize based on audience vote.

The Toronto Youth Shorts Film Festival is back in full swing for our 5th year and we're bringing back the T24 Project, a unique 24 hour film challenge unlike any other. Mark off Friday, February 15, 2013 on your calendars to take part in another exciting installment of this event.

On the night of the challenge, teams of local young filmmakers aged 18-28 will run amok the city to capture their stories about the Toronto experience on camera with the final result shown on the big screen in March.

Call for submissions: 2013 YoungCuts Film Festival

The call for submissions has been put out for the 13th edition of the YoungCuts Film Festival. The festival takes place every fall in Montreal.

They accept films of up to 30 minutes in length from both students and non-students who are 29 years of age or younger on December 31, 2012. They prefer receiving their entries online and will contact you if they need a physical copy.

The Early Bird Deadline for submitting entries is January 31st, 2013. The regular deadline is March 31st, 2013, while the Late Deadline is June 15th, 2013.

Call for submissions: Tarragon Theatre's Young Playwrights Unit

The Tarragon Theatre has announced their call for submissions to their Young Playwrights Unit. Created in 2000, the YPU provides free training experience for young people ages 16-21 who are curious and passionate about play-making.

Interested applicants are required to submit a short writing sample, two possible story ideas for development and a letter explaining your interest in the program. Successful applicants will require a high level of commitment. YPU members will be expected to attend a series of performances and participate in play reading sessions alongside their own writing and creative processes.
