Montreal, August 1, 2016 – Doc Circuit Montréal (DCM) is delighted to announce two exciting calls for projects: the EURODOC Pitch and the One‐on‐One for Emerging Filmmakers. Established québecois producers and emerging filmmakers are invited to submit their documentary projects by September 15th as part of these two pitching events.

We are now accepting submissions to the prized EURODOC Pitch! Five Quebec-based documentary producers will be selected for the opportunity to pitch live in the hopes of receiving a $4,000 grant and securing a much coveted slot for one of Europe’s leading training programs.

27th Annual Producers Guild Awards – winners

The 27th Annual Producers Guild Awards were held at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel January 23, 2016.

The big winner of the night was The Big Short which claimed the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures. Its producers were Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner. Brad Pitt was also in the all-star cast that included Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling, Marisa Tomei, Steve Carell and Melissa Leo.

The winner in the Animated Theatrical Motion Picture category was Inside Out produced by Jonas Rivera. For Documentary Theatrical Motion Pictures, the winner was James Gay-Rees who produced Asif Kapadia's Amy Winehouse profile Amy.

27th annual Producers Guild Awards – nominations announced

The Producers Guild of America (PGA) announced today the motion picture, long-form television, digital series, sports programs and additional television nominations for the 27th Annual Producers Guild Awards. The categories include: The Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures; The Award for Outstanding Producer of Animated Theatrical Motion Pictures; The David L. Wolper Award for Outstanding Producer of Long-Form Television; Outstanding Sports Program; and Outstanding Digital Series. The feature documentary film category and other television category nominations were previously announced by the PGA in late 2015.

All 2016 Producers Guild Award winners will be announced on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles. This year, the Producers Guild will present special honors to Jim Gianopulos (Milestone Award), Shonda Rhimes (Norman Lear Achievement Award in Television), David Heyman (David O. Selznick Achievement Award in Theatrical Motion Pictures), The Hunting Ground (Stanley Kramer Award), and Industrial Light & Magic (Visionary Vanguard Award). The 2016 Producers Guild Awards Co-Chairs are Michael De Luca (The Social Network, Captain Phillips) and Jennifer Todd (Alice in Wonderland, Celeste and Jesse Forever).

The Producers Guild of America announces PGA Awards 2015 documentary feature nominees

The Producers Guild of America (PGA) announced today its Documentary Theatrical Motion Pictures nominees that will advance in the voting process for the 27th Annual Producers Guild Awards. All other nominations and names of eligible producers for the Award for Outstanding Producer of Documentary Theatrical Motion Pictures will be announced on January 5, 2016. All 2016 Producers Guild Award winners will be presented on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles.

During the awards show, the Producers Guild will also present special honors to Jim Gianopulos, David Heyman and Shonda Rhimes, among others. The 2016 Producers Guild Awards Co-Chairs are Michael DeLuca (SOCIAL NETWORK, CAPTAIN PHILLIPS) and Jennifer Todd (ALICE IN WONDERLAND, CELESTE AND JESSE FOREVER).

Call for submissions: Doc Circuit Montreal One-on-One Pitches for Emerging Filmmakers

Doc Circuit Montreal is proud to announce the fifth edition of the One-on-One Pitches for Emerging Filmmakers on Wednesday, October 7, 2015. Ten up-and-coming filmmakers will have the opportunity to meet ten established producers during a full-day event dedicated to documentary pitches. Doc Circuit Montreal is committed to offering a new generation of directors the opportunity to enhance their pitching skills and directly present their projects to film and television producers.

A networking and proposal activity, One-on-One Pitches for Emerging Filmmakers is designed to encourage the formation of new business partnerships and spark intergenerational discussions about the challenges, issues and changes facing the documentary industry. Filmmakers interested in participating have until September 15, 2015 to submit a project.

Call for submissions: Toronto International Film Festival

Film submissions for the 40th annual Toronto International Film Festival, running from September 10-20, 2015, is now open. The deadline for submission is May 1. The late submission deadline is May 29.

The festival accepts films from Canada and anywhere around the world, both short films and features. This is their second year accepting international short films. To submit a film, you must register via Withoutabox.com.

TIFF prefers that all short and feature films presented are, at minimum, North American premieres. They will accept submissions that have already premiered in North America, but the film’s premiere status will be taken into consideration when final programming decisions are made.

PGA's 26th annual Producers Guild Awards – winners

Last night, the Producers Guild of America (PGA) announced this year's winning motion picture, television, and new media productions at the 26th Annual Producers Guild Awards ceremony at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles.

The Jerry Seinfeld-created web series, Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee won the Producers Guild Award for Outstanding Digital Series.

The television program Breaking Bad and its producers Melissa Bernstein, Sam Catlin, Bryan Cranston, Vince Gilligan, Peter Gould, Mark Johnson, Stewart Lyons, Michelle MacLaren, George Mastras, Diane Mercer, Thomas Schnauz, and Moira Walley-Beckett won the Norman Felton Award for Outstanding Producer of Episodic Television, Drama.

Closing the evening, the film Birdman and its producers Alejandro G. Iñárritu, John Lesher, and James W. Skotchdopole won the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures. This category is one of the most eagerly-anticipated of season, as it is widely considered a strong prognosticator for the Best Picture Oscar®.

Producers Guild of America announces documentary and television nominees for 2015 PGA Awards

Xavier Dolan's film Mommy selected as Canada's entry for 2015 Best Foreign Film Oscar

TELEFILM CANADA ANNOUNCES THAT XAVIER DOLAN’S MOMMY IS CANADA’S SELECTION FOR THE BEST FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM OSCAR IN 2015

Telefilm Canada, which chairs the pan-Canadian Oscar selection committee, is pleased to announce that the feature film Mommy, directed by Xavier Dolan, has been selected to represent Canada for consideration in the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 87th Academy Awards, to be held in Hollywood on February 22, 2015.

“For the last several years, Canadian cinema has made waves at the Oscars with strong and audacious films,” said Carolle Brabant, Executive Director of Telefilm Canada. “The 2015 Academy Awards is just as promising because the Oscar selection committee has chosen Xavier Dolan’s Mommy, which has had a brilliant career since its release. Five Finalists Selected for the $10K CMPA Feature Film Award

Award-winning producer Jennifer Jonas today announced the shortlist for the 9th annual Canadian Media Production Association’s (CMPA) Feature Film Producer’s Award. Jennifer is Chair of the national jury and last year’s recipient.

The winner will receive a cash prize of $10,000 at a special reception to mark the opening of the 39th Toronto International Film Festival ® on September 4th. Festival delegates are invited to attend the presentation being held from 3:30-5:30 p.m. in the Filmmakers’ Lounge in the Glenn Gould Studio, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), 250 Front Street West.

The award was created as a partnership with the Festival in 2006. It recognizes the vision and entrepreneurship of an outstanding Canadian producer whose body of work demonstrates commitment and passion for producing Canadian feature films.

Producers Guild of America's 25th Annual PGA Awards – winners

Last night the Producers Guild of America held their 25th Annual PGA Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills.

The evening culminated with an unprecedented and surprising tie between two Oscar favourites, Gravity and 12 Years a Slave. This has been a tight awards-season with many prestige films and many contenders, and the two shared winners were considered joint frontrunners along with David O. Russell's American Hustle. What makes a tie so extremely unlikely is that the PGA is a large organization with over 6,000 members, and that they use a preferential voting system similar to what the Academy uses.

Alfonso Cuaron and David Heyman accepted on behalf of Gravity, while Brad Pitt was joined by director/producer Steve McQueen along with producers Anthony Katagas and Jeremy Kleiner.

The Documentary winner was Alex Gibney's We Steal Secrets: The Story Of Wikileaks. For Animated Motion Picture, the winner was the 3D Disney film Frozen.

Rencontres Internationales du Documentaire de Montréal statement on the passing of Peter Wintonick

Montreal, Monday, November 18, 2013 – The Montreal International Documentary Festival (RIDM) has the regret to announce the passing of filmmaker Peter Wintonick. A tribute had just been paid to him as part of the 16th edition of the festival.

Born in 1953 in Trenton, Ontario, but established in Montreal for a long time, documentarian Peter Wintonick passed away this Monday, November 18, at the age of 60, struck by liver cancer. A producer, a director, a critic, an editor and a programmer, Peter Wintonick devoted a large part of his life to independent cinema. His filmography included fiction features, documentaries, educative and sociopolitical films.

Wintonick had notably produced and directed with Mark Achbar Manufacturing Consent: Noam Chomsky and the Media, which won many international awards. Among his filmography, we also find Cinéma Vérité: Defining the Moment and Seeing Is Believing: Handicams, Human Rights and the News. Peter Wintonick regularly collaborated to different film magazines and with several festivals and institutions throughout the world. He also taught cinema in several universities, notably at Concordia University. In 2006, Peter Wintonick received the Governor General's Award in Visual and Media Arts.

Toronto International Film Festival announces 2013 Rising Stars, Talent Lab, Producers Lab, Pitch This!

TORONTO – The Toronto International Film Festival® today announced the four actors named the 2013 TIFF Rising Stars — Evelyne Brochu, Cara Gee, Megan Park and Johnathan Sousa.
