36th annual Golden Raspberry Awards (Razzies) winners announced

The ceremony for the 36th annual Golden Raspberry Awards or Razzies were held in Los Angeles on Saturday night to celebrate the worst in film.

The top "winners" were Fantastic Four and Fifty Shades of Grey which each took four awards, including a share of the top Worst Picture prize. Fifty Shades of Grey won the top acting prizes with Worst Actor going to Jamie Dornan, Worst Actress to Dakota Johnson, and Worst Screen Combo to both. The other awards claimed by Fantastic Four were for Worst Remake/Rip-off/Sequel, Worst Director (Josh Trank) and Worst Screenplay.

The 73rd Golden Globe Awards winners

The gala ceremony for the 73rd Golden Globe Awards took place tonight. It was hosted for the fourth time by Ricky Gervais.

The night's biggest winner was Alejandro González Iñárritu's The Revenant. It won for Best Motion Picture - Drama, Best Director and Best Actor for Leonardo DiCaprio. Last year, Iñárritu shared the Best Screenplay prize for Birdman but was edged out in the Best Motion Picture - Drama and Best Director categories by Boyhood.

Denzel Washington was the recipient of the Cecil B. DeMille Award which honours extraordinary contributions to the entertainment world.

Toronto Film Critics Association announces 2015 award winners

Todd Haynes’s Carol takes Best Picture, Best Director
The Forbidden Room, My Internship in Canada and Sleeping Giant compete for Rogers $100,000 Best Canadian Film Award

Carol, the swooning tale of a life-changing love affair, won two top prizes at the 2015 awards of the Toronto Film Critics Association.

Todd Haynes’ 1950s melodrama was named Best Picture, and Haynes named Best Director. The film’s stars, Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara, were runners-up for this year’s Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress prizes, respectively.

The TFCA named Tom Hardy Best Actor for the second consecutive year for his dual role as homicidal twin crime lords Reggie and Ronnie Kray in Brian Helgeland’s Legend; he’d won the 2014 award for holding the screen all by his lonesome in Steven Knight’s solo drama Locke.

Nominations announced for the 73rd Golden Globe Awards

Carol, The Revenant, Steve Jobs and The Big Short led the the nominations for the 73rd Golden Globe Awards, announced early in the morning today, December 10. Among the TV nominees the highlights were American Crime, Fargo, Mr. Robot, Outlander, Transparent and Wolf Hall, with three nominations each.

The nominations were introduced by HFPA president Lorenzo Soria and announced by America Ferrera, Angela Bassett, Chloe Grace Moretz and Dennis Quaid.

For both films and TV this year’s nominations made it clear that this would be a wide open race, with no clear favorites. With five nominations – best motion picture, drama; best performance by an actress, drama for both Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara; best director, Todd Haynes; and best original score, Carter Burwell – Carol leaps to the forefront but The Big Short, The Revenant and Steve Jobs are right behind, with four nominations each. The Revenant and The Big Short have an important advantage, though – both were included in the best motion picture categories, for drama and musical or comedy, respectively.

New York Film Critics Circle Awards announces winners for 2015

The New York Film Critics Circle held its voting for their NYFCC Awards this morning and have announced its award winners for the year 2015. The big winner was the Todd Haynes lesbian-themed drama Carol. It won for Best Picture, Best Director (Haynes), Best Screenplay (Phyllis Nagy), and Best Cinematographer (Edward Lachman).

While Spotlight was the top prizewinner at this weekend's Gotham Independent Film Awards, its only win from the NYFCC was Best Actor for Michael Keaton. Neither film featured prominently in yesterday's awards selection by the National Board of Review. Spotlight received a mention as one of the top ten films of the year, while Carol was omitted entirely.

National Board of Review Announces 2015 Award Winners

The National Board of Review has named Mad Max: Fury Road the 2015 Best Film of the Year.

NBR President Annie Schulhof said, “2015 has been a banner year for popular cinema. We are thrilled to be awarding George Miller and Ridley Scott, two iconic filmmakers at the top of their game, while also celebrating the next generation of talent.”

The 2015 William K Everson Film History Award recipient is Cecilia De Mille Presley, the granddaughter of legendary director, Cecil B. DeMille. As Vice Chair of the National Film Preservation Foundation, she has devoted her life to film preservation. In honor of her grandfather’s legacy she has co-authored the book CECIL B. DEMILLE: THE ART OF THE HOLLYWOOD EPIC.

2015 MTV Video Music Awards – nominations

The 2015 MTV Video Music Awards nominations are here — so get voting!

The list for the show, airing Sunday, August 30 at 9 p.m. ET/PT — and hosted by Miley Cyrus — is led by Taylor Swift, who is up for nine Moonmen. Following Taylor, pal Ed Sheeran has six noms and is competing against her for the coveted Video of the Year category. We doubt there will be any bad blood, though.

2015 Billboard Music Awards – winners

The Billboard Music Awards held their ceremony Sunday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

25 year old singer-songwriter Taylor Alison Swift was the evening's biggest winner, taking a total of eight awards. After premiering her “Bad Blood” music video at the top of the show, she went on to win for Top Artist, Top Female artist, Billboard Chart Achievement Award, Top Billboard 200 Album, Top Billboard 200 Artist, Top 100 Hot Artist, Top Digital Songs Artist and Top Streaming Song (Video). Going into the night, she had been nominated for a total of 14 awards.

In accepting her award for Top Female Artist, she thanked “all the girls I talk to on the Internet and we talk about your feelings and you teach me your teen slang.” When she later received the Top Streaming Song (Video) Award, she added, “Honestly, the fans -- I’m obsessed with you. You guys are the reason this year has happened the way that it's happened.”

Sam Smith, Iggy Azalea and Pharrell trailed well behind with three awards. One Direction, Hozier, Jason Aldean, Enrique Iglesias and John Legend each picked up a pair of prizes.

Broadcast Film Critics Association'a (BFCA) 20th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards – winners

The Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA) announced the winners of the 20th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards tonight, live from the Hollywood Palladium. The show aired on A&E at 9pm ET/6pm PT and was hosted by Michael Strahan.

Boyhood was named Best Picture and garnered three additional wins including Best Supporting Actress for Patricia Arquette, Best Young Actor/Actress for Ellar Coltrane, and Best Director for Richard Linklater.

72nd annual Golden Globe Awards – winners

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association held the gala ceremony for their 72nd annual Golden Globe Awards tonight in the Beverly Hills hotel. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosted again for their third (and they say final) time in a row.

The night's big winner was Richard Linklater's Boyhood. It won for Best Motion Picture - Drama, as well as for Best Director. Patricia Arquette picked up the prize for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Mason's mother Olivia.

Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's Birdman was a double winner for Best Screenplay and Best Actor (Michael Keaton). James Marsh's The Theory of Everything also won twice. It picked up the awards for Best Original Score (Jóhann Jóhannsson) and Best Actor Drama (Eddie Redmayne).

Toronto Film Critics Association names Denis Villeneuve’s Enemy the Best Canadian Film of the Year

Enemy, starring Jake Gyllenhaal as a Toronto college professor whose world is thrown into chaos when he becomes obsessed with a lookalike actor, has won the Toronto Film Critics Association’s 2014 Rogers Best Canadian Film Award.

The award was presented to director Denis Villeneuve by Deepa Mehta at a gala dinner held January 6, 2015 at the historic Carlu in downtown Toronto. Also nominated for the award were The F Word, directed by Michael Dowse, and Mommy, directed by Xavier Dolan. In attendance were prominent members of the film industry.

This is the third time Villeneuve has taken home the Rogers Best Canadian Film Award, having previously won in consecutive years for 2009’s Polytechnique and 2010’s Incendies. The $100,000 value of the Rogers Best Canadian Film Award makes it the richest annual film prize in Canada. As runners-up, Dolan and Dowse each received $5,000 from Rogers Communications.

The Toronto Film Critics Association announce 2014 TFCA award winners

Boyhood, Richard Linklater’s era-spanning look at a Texas kid’s life from his first week of school to his first week of college, has won three top prizes at the 2014 awards of the Toronto Film Critics Association.

In addition to the film’s Best Picture award, Linklater has won Best Director, and Patricia Arquette has been named Best Supporting Actress for her role as the young protagonist’s mother.

The awards were voted by the TFCA at a meeting on the afternoon of December 14. The membership also named its three finalists for the Rogers Best Canadian Film Award Enemy, directed by Denis Villeneuve; The F Word, directed by Michael Dowse; and Mommy, directed by Xavier Dolan.

The Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA) has announced the nominees for The 20th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards. The winners will be revealed at the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, which will broadcast live on A&E from the Hollywood Palladium on January 15th at 9pm ET/ 6pm PT, the day the Academy Award nominations are announced. This is the first year that the BFCA will partner with A&E to broadcast the show.

Legendary Super Bowl Champion Michael Strahan will serve as the show’s host. Strahan is the co-host of the popular morning talk show “LIVE with Kelly and Michael,” and an Emmy-nominated “Fox NFL Sunday” analyst. He also serves as special co-host for ABC’s top-rated morning program, “Good Morning America.”

72nd Golden Globe Awards – nominations

The nominations for the 72nd Golden Globe Awards were announced bright and early this morning at the Beverly Hilton hotel. During the traditional pre-dawn ceremony in Beverly Hills, HFPA president Theo Kingma introduced Kate Beckinsale, two-time Golden Globe Award-nominee Peter Krause, Paula Patton, and Golden Globe-winner and five-time nominee Jeremy Piven did the honours.

Leading the field with seven nominations was Birdman. Its nominations included Best Picture — Comedy or Musical, Best Director, Best Screenplay and a Best Actor nod for Michael Keaton. It's competitors for Best Picture – Comedy or Musical are The Grand Budapest Hotel, Into the Woods, Pride and St. Vincent. The Best Motion Picture – Drama nominees are Boyhood, Foxcatcher, The Imitation Game, Selma and The Theory of Everything.

24th Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards – winners

The Independent Filmmaker Project (IFP) tonight announced the winners of the 24thAnnual Gotham Independent Film Awards at its awards ceremony held at Cipriani Wall Street, in New York City.

Winning the Best Feature award was Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), Alejandro González Iñárritu’s stylistically adventurous existential comedy in which a Hollywood actor attempts to revive his career and obliterate his superhero image past by producing and starring in a serious Broadway drama. Iñárritu previously received a Gotham Tribute in 2006.

The award for Best Documentary went to CITIZENFOUR, Laura Poitras’ inside, of-the-moment telling of the Edward Snowden revelations on the massive covert surveillance programs run by the NSA and other intelligence agencies – the third film in her trilogy on post-9/11 America.

Poitras previously won this award in 2010 for The Oath, the second film in the trilogy.

19th Annual Satellite Awards – nominations

The International Press Academy (IPA) announced its nominations for the 19th Annual Satellite™ Awards in the Motion Pictures and Television categories. Each year, the IPA celebrates nominees from domestic and international submissions for 38 categories: 19 in Motion Pictures, 13 in Television, 2 in Blu-ray DVDs and 4 in Video Games.

Special achievement awards and nominations for the Blu-ray and Video Game categories will be announced on January 5, 2015.

The special achievement awards include The Mary Pickford Award for outstanding artistic contribution, The Nikola Tesla Award for visionary achievements in filmmaking technology and The Auteur Award for creative vision and unique artistry made on audiences and fellow artists alike.

2014 Semaine de la Critique awards – winners

The 53rd Semaine de la Critique has announced the winners for their awards. Leading the way with three wins including the Grand Prize is Племя (The Tribe) by Мирослав Слабошпицький (Myroslav Slaboshpytskiy). It is his first film and is told entirely in sign language without dialogue or subtitles. It also won the Visionary Award and the grant from the Gan Foundation for Distibution.

The 53rd Semaine de la Critique concludes tomorrow.

2014 Billboard Music Awards – winners

Justin Timberlake received seven Billboard Music Awards Sunday, taking home trophies for Top Artist, Top Billboard 200 Artist and Top Billboard 200 Album ("The 20/20 Experience") in a three-hour show at at the MGM Grand Arena.

Imagine Dragons was right behind JT, receiving five awards, with Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Duo/Group and Top Rock Artist among their tally. "Blurred Lines" earned Thicke, T.I. and Williams four trophies: Top Hot 100 Song, Top Digital Song, Top Radio Song and Top R&B Song. Thicke performed his new single, "Get Her Back," on the show.

Fans voted to give the Milestone Award to Carrie Underwood. In addition to her two performances, Jennifer Lopez delivered a passionate and emotional speech in accepting the Icon Award. A dozen awards were handed out on air in between 19 musical performances.

Semaine de la Critique (Critics' Week) at Cannes announces 2014 lineup

The programme for the Cannes festival sidebar known as 53rd Semaine de la Critique or Critics' Week was announced this morning. Along with the seven main competition features, the lineup opens with Faire L’Amour from Haitian France-based director Djinn Carrénard and closes with Hippocrate from France's Thomas Lilti. In addition, there will be two special screenings: Respire, the second directorial work from French actress Mélanie Laurent, and L’Institutrice (The Kindergarden Teacher) from Israeli's Nadav Lapid.

The only American film in the programme is the zombie film It Follows by David Robert Mitchell. Canada's only selection is the short film Petit Frère by Rémi St-Michel.

2014 Billboard Music Awards – nominations

With help from pop R&B singer Jason Derulo live this morning on “Good Morning America,” dick clark productions and Billboard, the ultimate authority in music and home of the iconic Billboard charts defining success in music, today announced the finalists for the 2014 Billboard Music Awards, honoring the year’s most successful artists in 40 categories. The 2014 Billboard Music Awards will broadcast LIVE from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, May 18, on ABC from 8:00 PM–11:00 PM ET, with performances from music’s biggest stars. Derulo appeared in the 8:00 AM ET hour of “Good Morning America” today, to announce his participation as a performer in this year’s Billboard Music Awards. Derulo also announced five of the 40 finalist categories, including: Top Artist, Top Male Artist, Top Female Artist, Top R&B Artist, and Top Country Artist.

Finalists Imagine Dragons and Lorde lead with twelve categories each. Imagine Dragons is vying for its first Billboard Music Award this year. The quartet burned up the charts in 2013 with its album "Night Visions" (which is also a finalist for Top Rock Album) and its many hit singles. Among those is the smash hit "Radioactive," which broke the record for the most weeks ever on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Lorde broke through in 2013 as well with her inescapable No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 single "Royals" and debut album "Pure Heroine." The two musical acts go head-to-head in nine categories, including Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Digital Songs Artist, Top Radio Songs Artist, Top Rock Artist, Top Rock Album, Top Hot 100 Song, Top Digital Song, Top Streaming Song (Audio), and Top Rock Song.
