César du cinéma 2013 – winners


France's Académie des Arts et Techniques du Cinéma held the the 38th annual César du cinéma gala ceremony tonight at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. Presiding over the evening was actor and producer Jamel Debbouze, with Antoine de Caunes as master of ceremonies.

Michael Haneke's Amour led the night with five wins. They were all in the top categories – Best Film, Director, Original Screenplay, Actor (Jean Louis Trintignant) and Actress (Emmanuelle Riva).

Jacques Audiard's De rouille et d’os (Rust and Bone) was next with four awards. In addition to Best Adapted Screenplay, it won for Breakthrough Performance – Actor (Matthias Schoenaerts), Editing and Original Music.

The historical costume drama Les Adieux à la reine (Farewell, My Queen) by Benoit Jacquot received three awards in the craft categories, winning for Cinematography, Costumes and Production Design.

Noemie Lvovsky's Camille redouble (Camille Rewinds) had led with thirteen nominations but went home completely empty-handed. Holy Motors by Leos Carax also did not win anything from its nine nominations.

Current Oscar-frontrunner Argo by Ben Affleck won the award for Foreign Film. An Honourary César was presented to actor-director Kevin Costner.
