Cannes announces 2012 Cinéfondation and Short film lineups


In advance of their Thursday announcement of their official selections, the Festival de Cannes has announced the films for the Short Film Competition and the Cinéfondation Selection.

The Cinéfondation selection of 15 films were taken from the more than 1,700 submissions from 320 film schools from around the world. The ten short films were selected from 4,500 submissions and will compete for the 2012 Short Film Palme d'Or. The Canadian film Chef De Meute by Quebec director Chloe Robichaud is among the ten films.

The Cinéfondation and Short Film jury will be presided over by Jean-Pierre Dardenne, who with his brother Luc has won two Palme d'Or awards at Cannes for Rosetta and L’Enfant (The Child). The other jurors are Canadian actress Arsinée Khanjian, Brazilian writer-director Karim Ainouz, French writer-director Emmanuel Carrere and Chinese director 余力为 (Yu Lik-Wai).

The Short Film Palme d’or and Cinéfondation Awards will be presented at the Closing Award Ceremony on May 27nd, 2012. The 65th Festival de Cannes runs from May 16 to 27, 2012.
