Jameson Empire Awards 2012 - winners


Empire magazine held thier 17th Jameson Empire Awards today in central London. The event was hosted by Radio 6 presenter Lauren Laverne and Film 2012’s Chris Hewitt.

Tomas Alfredson's Tinker Tailor Solider Spy led the field with three awards. It won for Best British Film, Best Thriller and Best Actor for Gary Oldman. The film is a moody 70s-style Cold War thriller based on a novel by John le Carré.

Taking the top prize for Best Film, though, was Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows — Part 2, the final instalment of the popular series. David Yates also picked up the award for Best Director. The film had led the nominations with five along with Drive. Drive, however, came away empty-handed.

Also picking up two prizes was the superhero comic-book adaptation Thor. It won for Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy and Best Male Newcomer for Tom Hiddleston who portrays Thor's nemesis Loki.
