29th Film Academy of the Phillipines Awards (Luna Awards) - winners

Yesterday, the Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP) held their 29th FAP Awards, also known as the Luna Awards, for the best in Filipino cinema in the year 2010. The ceremony took place at the Quezon Hall of the Quezon City Sports Club. The Luna Awards had not been held for the last two years due to budgetary constraints. This year's edition was a last-minute affair with the result that many nominees and winners did not attend the modest event, having not received their invitations in time.

The big winner was Emir which took four awards. It won for Best Picture, Director (Chito Roño), Cinematography and Editing.

Rosario, however, came away with more awards. In addition to tying for Best Cinematography, it won for Supporting Actor (Yul Suervo), Screenplay, Production Design and Musical Score.

Lorna Tolentino (Sa ‘Yo Lamang) won for Best Actress while Best Actor went to Dolphy for Father Jejemon. Best Supporting Actress was Anne Curtis for In Your Eyes.

Additionally, the Film Academy handed out a number of special awards and plaques including the Golden Reel Award to Congresswoman Imelda Marcos. She became known in the west as the wife of former President Ferdinand Marcos and for her collection of 2700 shoes.

FAP also belatedly handed out the Luna Awards for the year 2008 as well. The winners had been announced back in March. Baler dominated the 2008 awards with eight awards: Best Picture, Director (Mark Meily), Supporting Actor (Philip Salvador), Screenplay, Cinematography, Production Design, Sound and Musical Score. Best Actor went to Christopher de Leon for Magkaibigan while Best Actress was given to Mylene Dizon for her role in 100. One True Love actress Iza Calzado won for Supporting Actress. Best Editing went to Torotot.

The Luna Awards for the year 2009 will be handed out at next year's ceremony.

The Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino (the Filipino Film Critics) presented their 34th Annual Gawad Urian Awards back in May.
