DGA Announces Nominees for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Television, Commercials and Documentary for 2015

Directors Guild of America President Paris Barclay today announced the DGA’s nominees for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Television, Commercials and Documentary for 2015.

“With more television and documentary choices than ever available to audiences, the level of directorial excellence across the nominees for these nine categories is unparalleled,” said Barclay. “We’re proud to recognize the critical role of director in these genres and honor the incredible range of talent and skill found in all of these projects. Congratulations to the nominees.”

The winners will be announced at the 68th Annual DGA Awards on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles. The DGA Awards will be hosted by actor Jane Lynch.

Nominees for Inaugural First-Time Feature Film Director Category Also Announced

Directors Guild of America President Paris Barclay today announced the five nominees for the DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film for 2015.

“What makes this year different is the unbridled ambition of the five nominated films – in theme, in production, in visual imagination,” said Barclay. “What makes this year the same is that the films were all chosen by the directors’ peers, and it’s clear our members love when people use their vision and skill to push the media to new heights. Congratulations to all of the nominees for their incredible work.”

In addition, Mr. Barclay also announced the five nominees for a new category recognizing the achievement of first-time feature film directors. First announced by Steven Spielberg at last year’s DGA Awards, the Outstanding Directorial Achievement of a First-Time Feature Film Director is a new DGA Award that was created to showcase the feature film talent of the future.

14th Annual VES Awards Nominees announced

Today, the Visual Effects Society (VES), the industry’s professional global honorary society, announced the nominees for the 14th Annual VES Awards, the prestigious yearly celebration that recognizes outstanding visual effects artistry and innovation in film, animation, television, commercials and video games and the VFX supervisors, VFX producers and hands-on artists who bring this work to life., Nominees were selected by VES members via events hosted by its nine sections, - Australia, Bay Area, London, Los Angeles, Montreal, New York, New Zealand, Toronto and Vancouver. The VES Awards will be held on February 2nd at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

As previously announced, the Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to award-winning director-producer Sir Ridley Scott., The Visionary Award will be presented to acclaimed visual futurist and conceptual artist Syd Mead.

2015 Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild Awards – winners

The Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild tonight announced winners of its Annual Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild Awards in 19 categories of film, television, commercials and live theater during the black-tie ceremony at the Paramount Studios Theatre. The awards took place before an audience of more than 500, including guild members, industry executives and press. MUAHS President Sue Cabral-Ebert presided over the awards ceremony with Wendi McLendon-Covey (The Goldbergs) serving as host.

Golden Globe®-winner Ron Perlman (Sons of Anarchy)presented the Distinguished Artisan Award to his longtime friend and collaborator Guillermo Del Toro (Crimson Peak). Acclaimed director John Landis presented the Make-Up Artist Lifetime Achievement Award to Oscar®-winning make-up legend Rick Baker. Directors Guild of America announces 67th annual DGA Awards – winners

The winners of the Directors Guild of America Outstanding Directorial Achievement Awards for 2014 were announced tonight during the 67th Annual DGA Awards Dinner at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles. Alejandro G. Iñárritu won the DGA’s Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film for Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance).

Actor Jane Lynch hosted the ceremony before an audience of more than 1,600 guests. Today, the Visual Effects Society (VES), the industry’s global professional honorary society, held the 13th Annual VES Awards, the prestigious yearly celebration that recognizes outstanding visual effects artistry and innovation in film, animation, television, commercials, video games and special venues. Comedian Patton Oswalt served as host to the more than 1000 guests gathered at the Beverly Hilton to celebrate VFX talent in 23 awards categories. Big Hero 6 was the big winner of the evening garnering five awards. The teams from Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (feature film), Game of Thrones (broadcast) and SSE (commercial) led the wins in their respective categories, taking home three awards each.

65th Annual ACE Eddie Awards – winners

American Cinema Editors (ACE) held a gala ceremony for their 65th Annual ACE Eddie Awards recognizing outstanding editing last night in the International Ballroom of the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Serving as Master of Ceremonies was actress/comedian Mary Lynn Rajskub. Among the evening’s presenters were Matt Damon, Chris Pratt, Rene Russo, Allen Leech (Downton Abbey, The Imitation Game), Robin Leach, Nightcrawler director Dan Gilroy, Jeff Garlin and Amanda Fuller (Last Man Standing).

The winner for the Best Edited Feature Film in the Dramatic category was Sandra Adair for her work on Richard Linklater's Boyhood. Barney Pilling won for Best Edited Feature Film – Comedy or Musical for his cutting on Wes Anderson's The Grand Budapest Hotel.

The VES Awards will be held on February 4th at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

As previously announced, the Visionary Award will be presented to J.J. Abrams, award-winning director-producer- writer. (Note: Due to a change in his production schedule, Ridley Scott will unfortunately not be presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award at this time; we look forward to honoring him in the future for his enormous contributions to filmed entertainment).

Directors Guild of America announces 67th annual DGA Awards – nominations [UPDATED]

Directors Guild of America President Paris Barclay today announced the five nominees for the DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film for 2014.

“In a year full of excellent films, DGA members have nominated a stellar group of passionate filmmakers,” said Barclay. “Inspiring and artistic, these five directors made films that left an indelible impact not only on their fellow directors and members of the director’s team, but on audiences around the world. Congratulations to all of the nominees for their terrific work.”

DGA nominations for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Television, Commercials, and Documentaries will be announced on Wednesday, January 14, 2015.

Nominees Announced for Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild Awards 2015

The Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild today announced nominations in 19 categories honoring make-up artists and hair stylists outstanding achievements in motion pictures, television, commercials and live theater.

President Sue Cabral-Ebert announced the nominations. Winners will be revealed during the black-tie 2015 Annual MUAHS Guild Awards ceremony taking place on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at Paramount Studios. The MUAHS Awards after-party is courtesy of M.A.C. Cosmetics. Spirits presented will be presented by Patron Tequila.

"We are so excited to receive a record number of entries for our crafts from all over the world," said Cabral-Ebert. "The response and enthusiasm of the entertainment community was remarkable. Johnny Depp received the Guild's Distinguished Artisan Award presented by Oscar-Winning Make-Up Artist Joel Harlow, who is currently nominated for an Academy Award for his artistry in The Lone Ranger and also worked on creating Depp's transformation in The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Oscar-winner Gail Ryan was presented with the Hair Stylists Lifetime Achievement Award by Benicio Del Toro and Rick Baker presented the Make-Up Artists Lifetime Achievement Award to Oscar-winner Dick Smith who was unable to attend.

2013 Golden Trailer Awards – winners

It was a big night for The Walt Disney Studios at the 14th Annual Golden Trailer Awards at the Saban Theatre on Friday night. The preview for Iron Man 3 took two awards, Best Summer Blockbuster and the top prize, Best In Show. The Wreck It Ralph trailer nabbed Best Animation/Family, Monsters University had the Most Original Trailer, and as a capper, Disney studio marketers were given the first-ever Top Of The Box Office award for their campaign on 2012’s Marvel’s The Avengers. The studio got two additional offstage nods for Best Animation/Family TV Spot on Monsters University and Most Original Spot for Brave.

Between volleys of jokes by headliner Rob Schneider host Aisha Tyler, 18 of 67 total awards were handed out. Justin Chon of the Twilight movies presented, as did Lake Bell, writer, director and star of In A World…, a critically acclaimed new comedy which has its dramatic climax at a Golden Trailer Awards ceremony.

Among other kudos, the Skyfall promo took Best Action, and Best Documentary went to the Brooklyn Castle trailer, and Best Video Game went to the Tomb Raider preview. 2013 Costume Designers Guild (CDG) Awards – winners

The winners of the 15th Annual Costume Designers Guild Awards were announced last night at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. The Guild handed out competitive awards for costume design excellence in seven categories in film, television and commercial. Four honorary awards were also presented at the Awards Gala.

For Excellence in Contemporary Film, the winner was Skyfall costume designer Jany Temime. Jacqueline Durran won the Period Film category for her work on Anna Karenina. The award for Fantasy Film was granted posthumously to the renowned Eiko Ishioka for her designs on the Snow White film Mirror Mirror.

2013 Visual Effects Society (VES) Awards – winners

The Visual Effects Society announced the winners of The 11th Annual VES Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. The event recognizes outstanding visual effects in twenty-four categories of film, animation, television, commercials and video games.

Jeffrey A. Okun, Chair of the Visual Effects Society, commented, “Over eleven years, our awards show has developed into a truly special event. Each year, we put a spotlight on artists' achievements in visual effects that today more than ever define the experience of going to the cinema. We thank everyone who came together tonight to honor the artistry of all of our winners and nominees.”

Filmmakers, celebrities, producers and guests joined more than a thousand attendees from the visual effects industry for the sold-out gala – which honored director Ang Lee with the VES Visionary Award, presented by Dennis Muren, and Richard Edlund with the Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by Harrison Ford.

2013 Costume Designers Guild (CDG) Awards – nominations

Today, the Costume Designers Guild (CDG) announced the nominations for the 15th Annual CDG Awards.

Nominees include the costume designers for Beasts of the Southern Wild, Silver Linings Playbook, Skyfall, Zero Dark Thirty, Argo, Les Misérables, Lincoln, and Mirror Mirror. The latter film was the final work by the late, great Eiko Ishioka.

Honourary awards will be presented to Anne Hathaway (LACOSTE Spotlight Award), Lorne Michaels (Distinguished Collaborator Award) and Costume Designers Judianna Makovsky and Eduardo Castro (Career Achievement Awards).

Hollywood Post Alliance (HPA) Awards – nominations

The Hollywood Post Alliance has announced the nominees for the 2012 HPA Awards. The Awards honor excellence in post production and bring recognition to the achievements of individuals and companies who are engaged in significant and revolutionary work in post production.

The film categories were led by Joss Whedon's Marvel's The Avengers which received a nomination for Outstanding Editing and two for Outstanding Compositing. The only other film with multiple nominations was Ridley Scott's Prometheus which picked up two.

For television, the shows which picked up two nominations were Hatfields & McCoys Miniseries, Castle, Boardwalk Empire and Homeland. All other shows received a single mention.

2012 Costume Designers Guild (CDG) Awards - winners

On Tuesday night, the Costume Designers Guild held their 14th Annual CDG Awards ceremony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. The event was hosted by actress Jane Lynch and included presenters Billy Bob Thornton, Diane Lane, Robert Duvall, Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher.

In the Contemporary Film category, the winner was Trish Summerville with The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. She had been up against the costume designers for Bridesmaids, The Descendants, Drive and Melancholia.

For Period Film, the prize went to Arianne Phillips for her work on Madonna's W.E. She edged out the designers for The Artist, Jane Eyre, The Help and multiple Oscar-winner Sandy Powell of Hugo.

Jany Temime won for Fantasy Film with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 over Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Red Riding Hood, Thor and X-Men: First Class.

Visual Effects Society (VES) Awards - winners

The Visual Effects Society (VES) presented the winners of its 10th Annual VES Awards Tuesday night at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. The annual event recognizes outstanding visual effects artistry in 23 categories of film, animation, television, commercials, special venues and video games. As with the 39th Annie Awards on the weekend, actor/comedian Patton Oswalt hosted the evening's events.

Also as with the Annies, Rango was the evening’s top winner. It came away with four awards, for Outstanding Visual Effects in an Animated Feature Motion Picture, Outstanding Animated Character in an Animated Feature Motion Picture, Outstanding Created Environment in an Animated Feature Motion Picture, and Outstanding Virtual Cinematography in an Animated Feature Motion Picture.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes took the main prize of Outstanding Visual Effects in a Visual Effects-Driven Feature Motion Picture, and won a total of two awards. So too did Hugo and Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Martin Scorsese put in a surprise appearance at the presentation to receive his honours and was one of the evening’s highlights.

2012 Art Directors Guild Awards - winners

The Art Directors Guild (ADG) held its 16th Annual Excellence in Production Design Awards in nine categories of film, television, commercials and music videos at the International Ballroom of the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills. For the third year in a row, Paula Poundstone hosted the show.

For film, the winners were Hugo designed by Dante Ferretti (Period Film); Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 by Stuart Craig (Fantasy Film); and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Donald Graham Burt (Contemporary Film).

Television winners were Bill Groom for Boardwalk Empire, Mark Friedberg for Mildred Pierce, Richard Berg for Modern Family, and the designers for Saturday Night Live and the 83rd Annual Academy Awards.

2012 Directors Guild of America (DGA) Awards - winners

Late last night, the Directors Guild of America (DGA) held their 64th Annual DGA Awards at the Grand Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland in Los Angeles. The evening was hosted by Kelsey Grammer.

Michel Hazanavicius was named the Outstanding Director of the Year for directing The Artist. He had been up against fellow nominees Woody Allen for Midnight in Paris, David Fincher for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Alexander Payne for The Descendants, and Martin Scorsese for Hugo.

James Marsh took the Documentary category for making Project Nim. His competition had been Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky for Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory; Steve James for The Interrupters; Richard Press for Bill Cunningham New York; and Martin Scorsese for George Harrison: Living in the Material World.
