14th Annual VES Awards Nominees announced

Today, the Visual Effects Society (VES), the industry’s professional global honorary society, announced the nominees for the 14th Annual VES Awards, the prestigious yearly celebration that recognizes outstanding visual effects artistry and innovation in film, animation, television, commercials and video games and the VFX supervisors, VFX producers and hands-on artists who bring this work to life., Nominees were selected by VES members via events hosted by its nine sections, - Australia, Bay Area, London, Los Angeles, Montreal, New York, New Zealand, Toronto and Vancouver. The VES Awards will be held on February 2nd at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

As previously announced, the Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to award-winning director-producer Sir Ridley Scott., The Visionary Award will be presented to acclaimed visual futurist and conceptual artist Syd Mead.

Today, the Visual Effects Society (VES), the industry’s global professional honorary society, held the 13th Annual VES Awards, the prestigious yearly celebration that recognizes outstanding visual effects artistry and innovation in film, animation, television, commercials, video games and special venues. Comedian Patton Oswalt served as host to the more than 1000 guests gathered at the Beverly Hilton to celebrate VFX talent in 23 awards categories. Big Hero 6 was the big winner of the evening garnering five awards. The teams from Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (feature film), Game of Thrones (broadcast) and SSE (commercial) led the wins in their respective categories, taking home three awards each.

42nd Annual Annie Awards – winners

DreamWorks Animations How to Train Your Dragon 2 took Best Animated Feature top honors at the 42nd Annual Annie Awards held Saturday, January 31 at UCLAs Royce Hall. The Best Animated Special Production was awarded to Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey (Voyager Pictures LLC); Best Animated Short Subject Feast (Walt Disney Animation Studios); Best Animated TV/Broadcast Commercial Flight of the Stories (Aardman Animations); Best General Audience Animated TV/Broadcast Production for Preschool Children Tumble Leaf (Amazon Studios); Best Animated TV/Broadcast Production for Childrens Audience Gravity Falls (Disney Television Animation); Best General Audience Animated TV/Broadcast Production The Simpsons (Gracie Films in association with 20th Century Fox Television); Best Animated Video Game Valiant Hearts: The Great War (Ubisoft); and Best Student Film My Big Brother (Savannah College of Art and Design, Jason Rayner).

Visual Effects Society Announces Nominees for the 13th Annual VES Awards

Today, the Visual Effects Society (VES), the industry’s professional global honorary society, announced the nominees for the 13th Annual VES Awards, the prestigious yearly celebration that recognizes outstanding visual effects artistry and innovation in film, animation, television, commercials and video games and the VFX supervisors, VFX producers and hands-on-the-keys artists who bring this work to life. Nominees were selected by VES members via events hosted by its nine sections – Australia, Bay Area, London, Los Angeles, Montreal, New York, New Zealand, Toronto and Vancouver. The VES Awards will be held on February 4th at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

As previously announced, the Visionary Award will be presented to J.J. Abrams, award-winning director-producer- writer. (Note: Due to a change in his production schedule, Ridley Scott will unfortunately not be presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award at this time; we look forward to honoring him in the future for his enormous contributions to filmed entertainment).

42nd Annual Annie Awards – nominations announced

The International Animated Film Society, ASIFA-Hollywood, announced nominations today for its 42nd Annual Annie Awards™ recognizing the year's best in the field of animation. For a complete list of nominations, please visit www.annieawards.org.

The Annie Awards cover 36 categories and include Best Animated Feature, Best Animated Special Production, Commercials, Short Subjects and Outstanding Individual Achievements. The winners will be announced at a black tie ceremony on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at UCLA's Royce Hall. A pre-reception and press line begins at 5:00 pm with the awards ceremony following at 7:00 pm. A post-show celebration immediately follows the ceremony. All events will be held at Royce Hall.

Best Animated Features nominations include: Big Hero 6 (Walt Disney Animation Studios), Cheatin' (Plymptoons Studio), How to Train Your Dragon 2 (DreamWorks Animation SKG), Song of the Sea (GKIDS/Cartoon Saloon), The Book of Life (Reel FX), The Boxtrolls (Focus Features/Laika), The LEGO Movie (Warner Bros. Pictures), and The Tale of The Princess Kaguya (GKIDS/Studio Ghibli).

4th Annual Guild of Music Supervisors Awards – nominations

The Guild of Music Supervisors announced its fourth annual awards event taking place on Wednesday, February 26, at Mack Sennett Studios in Hollywood. The awards will recognize outstanding Music Supervisors in 14 categories representing Motion Picture, Television, Games, Trailers and Advertising.

“We are honored to celebrate and recognize the work of these important music supervisors at our fourth annual awards event”, noted Guild of Music Supervisors President Maureen Crowe. “Music is an integral part to the success of motion pictures , television programs, films, advertising and games. It helps tell the stories and engages audiences. We look forward to our annual awards event, which places a spotlight on this important craft.”

Motion Pictures Frozen, American Hustle, The Wolf of Wall Street, Gravity, Her, The Great Gatsby, Saving Mr. Banks, Inside Llewyn Davis, are a sampling of films receiving nods. Breaking Bad, Scandal, True Blood, Orange is the New Black, Behind the Candelabra, Girls, American Horror Story, Shameless, Nashville and Boardwalk Empire are included in the television categories.

International Film Music Critics Association (IFMCA) Awards – nominations

The International Film Music Critics Association (IFMCA) announces its list of nominees for excellence in musical scoring in 2012. The largest numbers this year are, for the most part, split evenly between four composers, all of whom received four nominations: Mychael Danna, Alexandre Desplat, Fernando Velázquez and veteran composer John Williams.

The nominations for Danna, Velázquez and Williams were each for a single score – director Ang Lee’s vivid shipwreck drama Life of Pi, director Juan Antonio Bayona’s harrowing tsunami drama Lo Imposible (The Impossible) and director Steven Spielberg’s look at the last months of the life of Lincoln, respectively.

Desplat’s nominations were for his body of work in 2012 which included writing IFMCA Award-nominated music for the quirky comedy Moonrise Kingdom, the storybook animation Rise of the Guardians, and the contemporary war thriller Zero Dark Thirty, as well as for the 1970s espionage thriller Argo, the realistic French romantic drama De rouille et d'os (Rust and Bone), the Italian satirical comedy Reality, and the French-language biopic Cloclo.

2013 Visual Effects Society (VES) Awards – winners

The Visual Effects Society announced the winners of The 11th Annual VES Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. The event recognizes outstanding visual effects in twenty-four categories of film, animation, television, commercials and video games.

Jeffrey A. Okun, Chair of the Visual Effects Society, commented, “Over eleven years, our awards show has developed into a truly special event. Each year, we put a spotlight on artists' achievements in visual effects that today more than ever define the experience of going to the cinema. We thank everyone who came together tonight to honor the artistry of all of our winners and nominees.”

Filmmakers, celebrities, producers and guests joined more than a thousand attendees from the visual effects industry for the sold-out gala – which honored director Ang Lee with the VES Visionary Award, presented by Dennis Muren, and Richard Edlund with the Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by Harrison Ford.

British Academy Scotland Awards 2012 – winners

BAFTA in Scotland held the ceremony for the British Academy Scotland Awards 2012 tonight at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Glasgow. Radio DJ and television presenter Edith Bowman hosted the event which honours Scottish talent in film, television and video games.

Zam Salim's debut feature Up There was the top winner, taking both of its nominations for Best Feature Film and Best Director. Developed from his own short film, the dark comedy is about two people in the afterlife on a bureaucratic assignment but misplace a soul that they must then find.

The Angels’ Share by Ken Loach also won two awards from its leading four nominations. Paul Laverty won for Best Writer, while Paul Brannigan won Best Actor/Actress beating out his co-star Siobhan Reilly.

2012 Writers’ Guild of Great Britain awards – winners

The Writers’ Guild of Great Britain presented the winners for the 2012 Writers’ Guild Awards tonight at the Tabernacle in Notting Hill. The ceremony was hosted by comedy writers Jane Bussmann and David Quantick.

The award for Best Screenplay was presented by Academy Award-winner David Seidler to Lynne Ramsay and Rory Stewart Kinnear for We Need to Talk About Kevin. It won against Paddy Considine for Tyrannosaur and Paul Laverty for Even the Rain. Danny King and Dexter Fletcher won Best First Feature Film for Wild Bill.

British Academy Scotland Awards 2012 – nominations

BAFTA in Scotland announced the nominations for the British Academy Scotland Awards 2012 which honour the very best Scottish talent in film, television and video games industries.

The Angels’ Share leads the way with four nominations, followed by Kevin Bridges: What’s The Story? and Zam Salim's Up There with two each. From Rab C Nesbitt, Gregor Fisher and Elaine C Smith go head-to-head in the Best TV Actor /Actress Category.

This year’s shortlist of 36 celebrates a diverse range of talent and work across 12 different categories including: Actor/Actress for Film, Actor/Actress for TV, Animation, Comedy/Entertainment Programme, Current Affairs, Director, Factual Series, Features/Factual Entertainment, Feature Film, Games, Single Documentary and Writer.

2012 British Academy Cymru Awards – winners

BAFTA Cymru (BAFTA in Wales), the Welsh branch of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, held their 21st annusl British Academy Cymru Awards in Cardiff.

The night's big winner was Patagonia by Marc Evans. It won four awards, for Director (Fiction), Editing (Fiction), Sound and Make-up/Hair. The film tells of a young Welsh couple who travels to Argentina to work on their relationship.

Submarine by Richard Ayoade won Best Television Film and Best Actor for Craig Roberts who played the 15-year-old Oliver Tate. Sharon Morgan picked up Best Actress for her role in Amit Gupta’s Resistance.

Kids' Choice Awards 2012 - winners

Nickelodeon held Kids' Choice Awards 2012 tonight at a ceremony in Los Angeles hosted by Will Smith.

Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked took the Favourite Movie prize over Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2, The Muppets and The Smurfs. Puss in Boots won for Favourite Animated Movie.

If you can believe it, Adam Sandler won an acting award and it wasn't (yet) a Golden Raspberry. Kristen Stewart won for Movie Actress and Katy Perry won for Voice from an Animated Movie.

Victorious won for TV Show, while Jake Short and Selena Gomez won the TV acting categories. Selena Gomez also picked up a prize for Female Singer, while her boyfriend Canadian singer Justin Bieber won for Male Singer. Bieber was one of many celebs who were "slimed" while onstage.

Kids' Choice Awards 2012 - nominees

Nickelodeon has unveiled the nominees for their Kids' Choice Awards 2012.

Animation featured prominently in the Movie nominees which were Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2, The Muppets and The Smurfs. The actual Animated Movie nominations went to Cars 2, Kung Fu Panda 2, Puss in Boots and Rio.

Johnny Depp picked up two nominations. He was nominated for Movie Actor where he competes against Jim Carrey, Daniel Radcliffe and Adam Sandler, and for Voice From An Animated Movie where he is up against Antonio Banderas, Jack Black and Katy Perry. Katy Perry, however, had a total of three nominations with her music nominations for Female Singer an Song (Firework).

For Movie Actress, the nominees were Amy Adams, Kristen Stewart, Sofia Vergara and Emma Watson.

Visual Effects Society (VES) Awards - winners

The Visual Effects Society (VES) presented the winners of its 10th Annual VES Awards Tuesday night at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. The annual event recognizes outstanding visual effects artistry in 23 categories of film, animation, television, commercials, special venues and video games. As with the 39th Annie Awards on the weekend, actor/comedian Patton Oswalt hosted the evening's events.

Also as with the Annies, Rango was the evening’s top winner. It came away with four awards, for Outstanding Visual Effects in an Animated Feature Motion Picture, Outstanding Animated Character in an Animated Feature Motion Picture, Outstanding Created Environment in an Animated Feature Motion Picture, and Outstanding Virtual Cinematography in an Animated Feature Motion Picture.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes took the main prize of Outstanding Visual Effects in a Visual Effects-Driven Feature Motion Picture, and won a total of two awards. So too did Hugo and Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Martin Scorsese put in a surprise appearance at the presentation to receive his honours and was one of the evening’s highlights.

International 3D Society's 2012 3D Creative Arts Awards - winners

The International 3D Society recognized "distinguished achievement" in the 3D creative arts at a black-tie ceremony held at the Beverly Hills hotel in Los Angeles, presenting 28 trophies known as Lumiere statuettes.

Martin Scorsese's Hugo was the biggest winner with three awards for Best Live Action 3D Feature, Best Stereography -- Live Action, and Best 3D Moment of the Year. In addition, director Martin Scorsese received the Society's Harold Lloyd Filmmaker Award, presented to him by Lloyd's granddaughter Suzanne Lloyd.

The Documentary award winner was Werner Herzog's Cave of Forgotten Dreams but fellow German Wim Wenders was given a special "Jury Prize" for Excellence for his innovative work on Pina.

Animated Film winners were The Adventures of Tintin which won Best Animated 3D Feature, Puss In Boots with Best Stereography - Animation, and The Lion King which won Best 2D to 3D Conversion.

“Tintin” leads with most feature nominations; “Boardwalk Empire” for broadcast

Los Angeles, January 9, 2012 - The Visual Effects Society (VES) today announced the nominees for its 10th Annual VES Awards ceremony recognizing outstanding visual effects artistry in 23 categories of film, animation, television, commercials, special venues and video games. Nominees were chosen Saturday, January 7 by distinguished panels of VES members who viewed submissions at the FotoKem screening facilities in Burbank and New York, FotoKem’s Spy in San Francisco, and other facilities in London, Sydney, Vancouver and Wellington, NZ.

“The standard of the creative work that is being considered this year is unbelievably high across all categories,” said Jeffrey A. Okun, Chair of the Visual Effects Society. “The judges faced a huge challenge because all of the work was so far above the norm. We’re honored to have the opportunity to focus the spotlight on the outstanding work that has contributed to some of the highest grossing films and broadcast projects of all time.”
