Pedro Almodovar's latest dark thriller La piel que habito (The Skin I Live In) led the field with 16 nominations from the 28 categories. Its mentions include Best Film, Director, Adapted Screenplay, Actor (Antonio Banderas) and Actress (Elena Anaya). This comes as a warm welcome to Almodovar who rejoined the Academia last year after quitting in 2005 over repeated snubs.
Next with 14 nominations was another thriller, Enrique Urbizu's No habrá paz para los malvados (No Rest for the Wicked). It too was nominated for Best Film and Best Director, as were Mateo Gil's Blackthorn. Sin destino (Blackthorn) (11 nominations) and Benito Zambrano's La voz dormida (The Sleeping Voice) (9 nominations).
Kike Maillo's Eva picked up 12 nominations but missed both Best Film and Best Director. It did, however, pick up nods for Best New Director and Original Screenplay. It led the field at the 2012 Premis Gaudí for Catalan cinema with 16 nominations.
Director Woody Allen picked up a nomination for Original Screenplay with Midnight in Paris. Salma Hayek was nominated for Lead Actress with her role in La chispa de la vida (As Luck Would Have It).
The Best Ibero-American Film nominations went to Boleto al paraiso (Ticket to Paradise), Miss Bala, Un cuento chino (Chinese Take-Away) and Violeta se fue a los cielos (Violeta Went to Heaven). The Best European Film nominees were Jane Eyre, Melancolia, The Artist and Carnage.
The ceremony for the 26th Annual Premios Goya will take place on February 19 in Madrid.
