Darryl’s Hard Liquor and Porn Film Festival 2012, Nov 16-17

This weekend brings us the latest edition of Darryl’s Hard Liquor and Porn Film Festival, now in its 11th year. It begins tonight with a screening of The Salon of Awesome Cinema, a new program created to highlight undiscovered short films from around the world that are sexy, fantastic, beautiful, twisted or just weird – films that will turn you on and make you think.

This will be followed by a screening of the films made during the 69 Hour Film Challenge last weekend, where film makers were given 69 hours to create a funny short film about sex. Participants are given a secret list of ten items, and were required to have at least three of the items in the film.

The list of items was the following:

1. Life-changing photographs.
2. A wardrobe malfunction.
3. The line "Who's been a bad kitty?"
4. A tattoo.
5. A plastic gun or a gun carved out of soap.
6. A hand bra.
7. A one eyed monster.
8. Answering a banana.
9. Morse code.
10. A broken lighter.

The main screening of the festival takes place twice on Saturday night, playing at 7pm and repeating at 9pm. This will be followed by an after-party at The Centre Of Gravity.

The screenings on Saturday night will include a modest little short I made last year called Encounter Abroad. It was made for Montreal's M60 festival and stars Joslyn Rogers and Julien Fiset.

The Hard Liquor and Porn Film Festival is an annual comedy short film festival in Toronto. It has also played in Montreal, London England and Sydney Australia. The event usually includes a screening of 25-35 short films and a party. Audience members are encouraged to dress up in porn star outfits. It’s not required but it’s fun. The audience is 50% male and 50% female ranging from 18 to 90 years old.

All screenings take place at The Projection Booth East Cinema, 1035 Gerrard Street East, Toronto.
