2012 Cinemania French Film Festival, Nov 1-11

CINEMANIA FILM FESTIVAL UNVEILS STELLAR PROGRAM FOR ITS 18th EDITION

CINEMANIA announces what promises to be another stellar program for its 18th edition this year, with a record number of 46 features and many of the most anticipated films of the year, plus several special screenings and unique events.

Among the films are 35 premieres (including 18 North American premieres), 4 films as a tribute to the great director Claude Miller and a Special Presentation of his last film THÉRÈSE DESQUEYROUX by Annie Miller, the late director's wife and producer. Sandrine Bonnaire's latest work as a director will be presented by her in person at the Imperial Cinema - J'ENRAGE DE SON ABSENCE (MADDENED BY HIS ABSENCE) - and, once again, la Cinémathèque québécoise has partnered with CINEMANIA in screening a retrospective of 7 important films starring Mlle Bonnaire.

Among the 18 North American premieres are many critically-acclaimed from Cannes and Venice Mostra film festivals, notably the opening film this year DE ROUILLE ET D'OS (RUST AND BONE) by Jacques Audiard, to be introduced in person by co-lead Matthias Schoenaerts. The closing film, L'HOMME QUI RIT (THE MAN WHO LAUGHS) will be presented by rising star Christa Theret, who also stars in RENOIR and FREEWAY (VOIE RAPIDE) at the Festival.

The latest films by many highly-respected directors are featured in the program - Manoel de Oliviera, Christophe Honoré, Mathieu Kassovitz, Lucas Belvaux, Alexandre Arcady, René Féret, Xavier Giannoli and Lou Ye, to highlight a few.

New this year, CINEMANIA adds an award, the "Prix du Public TFO" for Best First-Time Feature Film coupled with a bursary to assist the winning director in his or her next film - thirteen first-time directors' entries are eligible for this new prize compiled through audience voting submissions.

CINEMANIA welcomes 13 invited guests presenting their films, and they will be participating in audience Q&A sessions after the screenings. Among them are actors Johan Libéreau (VOIE RAPIDE, FREEWAY), in addition to directors Alexandre Arcady (CE QUE LE JOUR DOIT À LA NUIT, WHAT THE DAY OWES THE NIGHT) and Stéphane Cazes (OMBLINE). As part of the Festival's FOCUS ON BELGIAN CINEMA special event this year, director/actress Leila Albayaty (BERLIN TELEGRAM) and Patrick Ridremont (DEAD MAN TALKING) will present their films. And, CINEMANIA is pleased to announce the presence of award-winning director/actor Mathieu Kassovitz to introduce his latest feature, the exceptional L'ORDRE ET LA MORALE (REBELLION).
