Who are we?

We are the home of the emerging artist: Toronto’s only theatre festival celebrating the work of young and emerging artists, primarily those who are 21 and under. We provide application-based opportunities to learn more about theatre creation from the best in the business. We are an exciting and essential part of the artistic community and we are proud of what we do. And this year we are moving into the Tarragon Extra Space. Bigger venue, better festival. Stay tuned for more! this year it’s our tenth anniversary—so you know it’s going to be crazy awesome.

Now that’s hot.

Productions

We develop and produce new plays of various lengths. You should apply with a group of collaborators who will work with you throughout the year to develop the project and perform it during the Festival.

Creators’ Unit

Our Creators’ Unit is a tightly-knit ensemble who meets weekly to create a new collective piece, under the guidance of a professional artist facilitator. Participants in this program are theatre creators who are interested in many aspects of new creation.

Playwrights-in-Residence

Our playwrights work with professionals to create new scripts. These writers also meet together to share their process and learn from each other. A reading of each script is presented as part of the Festival.

Resident Company

We are seeking directors, designers, stage managers and actors to create a production, under the guidance of a professional artist mentor. This is a great way to get involved if you are not already working with collaborators, but you know what area of theatre is of interest to you.

Olde Spice

Our open-ended alumni program allows past Paprika participants to continue working with the Festival after they turn 22. Applications for this program are due in November, and more info is available online.
