2012 Tony Awards – winners


The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing held their 66th Annual Tony Awards for Excellence in the Theatre at the Beacon Theatre in New York. Neil Patrick Harris returned as host.

The adaptation of the film Once triumphed on the night with a dominating eight wins from its leading eleven nominations. It won for Best Musical, Book of a Musical, Director, Actor (Steve Kazee), Scenic Design, Lighting Design, Sound Design and Orchestrations.

Peter and the Starcatcher led the plays with five wins including Best Actor for star Christian Borle. But the satirical drama Clybourne Park captured the Best Play award.

In the Revival categories, the winners were the play Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman and the musical The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess. Death of a Salesman also won Best Director for Mike Nichols, and Porgy and Bess also won Best Actress – Musical for Audra McDonald.

Nice Work If You Can Get It won a pair of acting awards for its featured performers Michael McGrath and Judy Kaye.
