CaribbeanTales 2012 Toronto Film Showcase, Sept 4-15


The CaribbeanTales 2012 Toronto Film Showcase began yesterday with the start of the Market Incubator program for emerging filmmakers. But the event officially launches tonight with the opening Gala Reception at the Lakeshore Terrace at Harbourfront. The evening includes the music video Sort out Yuh Life Jamaica directed by Kush Asher with the band No Maddz, and the short film In Stereo: Joyce and Herman by Keston Neunie, followed by feature The Story of Lover’s Rock by Menelik Shabazz.

Also playing at the festival will be a short film I helped co-produce by Trinidadian-Montrealer Faisal Lutchmedial called Mr. Crab. It plays as part of a short film program on Friday September 14 at 9:15pm, which will then be followed by the feature I'm Santana The Movie by Roger Alexis.

The CaribbeanTales 2012 Toronto Film Showcase continues until September 15.

Selected producers hone their market skills in an intensive 3-day forum, including a Pitching Breakfast with industry reps.
By Pre-selection only

September 7th - 9th 2012
Engaging youth and community from Toronto's priority neighbourhoods to script, shoot, edit and deliver a 5minute film in 48hours.
The 10 top films will be screened during the Showcase, and  winners will be screened and receive Awards on Saturday September 15th.


Film SHOWCASE
September 10th, 12th, 14th and 15th. Studio Theatre, Harboufront. Engaging family, youth and community. Films from Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, French Guyana, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Britain, the U.S. and all corners of the Caribbean Region and Diaspora.

Centrepiece Film: 
LOVE CHILD by Leticia Tonos (Dominican Republic). Multi-award-winning film, Dominican  Republic's nomination to the Academy Awards.
Plus Talk back with Leticia Tonos and Senor Ellis Perez , film Commissioner for DR about the plans for Dominican Republic's film Industy. 

Wednesday 12th 9.15pm
Juan De Los Muertes (JUAN OF THE DEAD)-  a Cuban Zombie movie! "... ...Probably the freshest thing to come from the overcrowded zombie genre..."

CLOSING and AWARDS
ORPAILLEUR by Marc Barrat (Fr. Guyanne)
