Five Finalists Selected for the $10K CMPA Feature Film Award

Award-winning producer Jennifer Jonas today announced the shortlist for the 9th annual Canadian Media Production Association’s (CMPA) Feature Film Producer’s Award. Jennifer is Chair of the national jury and last year’s recipient.

The winner will receive a cash prize of $10,000 at a special reception to mark the opening of the 39th Toronto International Film Festival ® on September 4th. Festival delegates are invited to attend the presentation being held from 3:30-5:30 p.m. in the Filmmakers’ Lounge in the Glenn Gould Studio, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), 250 Front Street West.

The award was created as a partnership with the Festival in 2006. It recognizes the vision and entrepreneurship of an outstanding Canadian producer whose body of work demonstrates commitment and passion for producing Canadian feature films.

“It is such an honour to be able to recommend five outstanding Canadian producers and colleagues as the finalists for this prestigious prize,“ says Jennifer. “In a challenging and complex international marketplace where recognition and accomplishment are hard and rare to feel, it is thrilling to have the recognition of your peers. They understand intimately the challenges and satisfaction there is in pulling together a feature film in Canada.”

“Narrowing down five finalists from a record list of submissions for the award this year was no easy feat for the jury,” says Michael Hennessy, President and CEO, CMPA. “It speaks to the level of excellence the feature film industry has reached in this country. And, as the national organization representing independent producers across Canada, we celebrate their success.”
