Toronto International Film Festival announces 2015 Midnight Madness and Vanguard programmes

WALK ON THE WILD SIDE WITH MIDNIGHT MADNESS AT THE 2015 TORONTO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

Midnight Madness returns to the Toronto International Film Festival® to satiate late night audiences’ appetites for wild sensory stimulation. The programme will present the best in action, horror, shock and fantasy films from the rabble-rousers of cinema, opening with Jeremy Saulnier’s tense siege shocker Green Room.

“Midnight Madness winds up Festival audiences as the days are winding down and they are hungry for more,” says Colin Geddes, International Programmer for the Festival. “From adrenaline-filled action and untamed horror to twisted comedy and darkly blurred lines of reality, this year’s lineup welcomes back celebrated masters and fresh visionaries of renegade genre cinema.”

Among this year’s returning Midnight Madness directors are Joe Begos and Sean Byrne, who both debuted in the programme and are back with their much anticipated follow-up features, and Japanese bad boy auteur Takashi Miike with his high-octane Yakuza Apocalypse. TIFF announces 2014 Vanguard selections

TORONTO — The Toronto International Film Festival® Vanguard programme seduces audiences with a sensory experience full of mystery and boundary-busting madness, with bold international films that walk the razor’s edge. International programmer Colin Geddes brings together the work of some of the most audacious auteurs in the world to present a cinematic adventure that takes audiences to the dark, dangerous places that both unnerve yet intrigue them.

Call for submissions: Festival du nouveau cinéma 2014

Montreal's Festival du nouveau cinéma has announced a call for submissions for its 43rd edition of the festival. They are looking for films, interactive works and performances.

The Festival du nouveau cinéma is committed to the exploration and development of new practices in cinema and new media. It is a premiere showcase for original and brand-new works, particularly in the fields of independent cinema and digital creation.

Only works produced after January 1st, 2013 and not previously shown in Montréal, Québec are eligible. All selected entries must be in their original language and subtitled in French (preferably) or in English.

27th Images Festival announces 2014 lineup

The 27th Images Festival is right around the corner, with 10 days of groundbreaking film screenings, live performances and media-based installations taking place throughout Toronto April 10 - 19, 2014. The Images Festival continues to showcase the innovative edge of international contemporary media art, exhibiting a wide range of work and disciplines through its ON SCREEN, OFF SCREEN and LIVE IMAGES programming.

OPENING AND CLOSING NIGHT
Kicking off the festival at the Royal Cinema on April 10 @ 7 PM, is an intimate and epic film by the Indian collective CAMP (artists in attendance). From Gulf to Gulf to Gulf was shot over four years with a variety of high definition and mobile phone cameras, providing a remarkable window into the usually invisible world of merchant seamen who traverse the Arabian Sea to the Persian Gulf. Having screened at Experimenta Festival, FID Marseille and Documenta, we are thrilled to bring this incredible film to Toronto audiences for our opening night.

2013 Festival du nouveau cinéma announces complete programming

This morning at a press conference at the Agora Hydro-Québec in UQAM’s Cœur des sciences, the Festival du nouveau cinéma announced its full programming for the 42nd annual edition. It promises to be another exciting year for what has fast become Montreal's preeminent film festival.

Among the works programmed this year is a web documentary I directed called Jazz Petite-Bourgogne (or Burgundy Jazz. It is presented in the FNC Lab section for "experimental, expanded and multidisciplinary cinematic forms at the crossroads of cinema, art and new technologies." Jazz Petite-Bourgogne explores the rich history of Montreal's jazz scene from the perspective of the black community in the neighbourhood called Little Burgundy or Petite-Bourgogne (formerly called St-Antoine or St-Henri).

The 42nd Festival du nouveau cinéma presents 273 films from October 9–20 at various venues around downtown Montreal.

The Mascara & Popcorn Film Festival is now accepting submissions to their 2013 festival.

Mascara & Popcorn is a film festival that delves into the horror genre for the most part, as well as the experimental, the weird and the wonderful. Mascara and Popcorn also showcases projects that go beyond film: theatre, music, fundraisers and live performances within the underground arena, helping entrepreneurs and artists connect and kick start opportunities for themselves. Jem Cohen: We Have An Anchor, Dec 4-5

TIFF and the Images Festival present Jem Cohen: We Have An Anchor, a special co-presentation featuring artist and filmmaker Jem Cohen’s latest film/music project, We Have An Anchor, with performances on December 4 and 5 at 8 p.m. at TIFF Bell Lightbox.

This documentary-based, interdisciplinary hybrid features footage Cohen gathered in Nova Scotia over the past decade, multiple 16mm film and HD projections coupled with texts ranging from poems and folklore to scientific research and newspaper fragments, and a live musical concert performed by accomplished musicians and former Cohen collaborators, including: Guy Picciotto of Fugazi; Jim White of Dirty Three; T. Griffin of The Quavers; Efrim Menuck, founder of Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra; and Jessica Moss of Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra along with special guest vocals from Mary Margaret O'Hara.

Tonight, the 5th Annual Moving Image Film Festival gets underway at the Royal Cinema.

Moving Image is the first film festival that focuses on the genres of film as a study and welcomes experimentation with the "clash" or "fusion" of different genres. Our focus is to find new and innovative films that push the envelope by altering the way we view films today.

The 2012 Images Festival programming showcases vanguard contemporary media-based artworks. Located in 20+ venues across Toronto, the festival presents screenings, live performances, online projects, gallery exhibitions as well as artist talks, gallery tours and parties. The Images Festival crosses international boundaries again this year with 120+ works by artists from 26 countries, as well as local and national artists, students and accomplished artists. The Images Festival screens and exhibits a wide range of works from many disciplines – everything from formal materialist experiments to innovative documentaries, from film with live performance to works which address a range of issues from the political to the personal and everything in between!
